The letters of the Japanese alphabet (called kanji) often don’t represent sounds as they do in other languages. For example, “hello” would be written as two different kanji characters in Japanese. That means typing on a computer can be challenging since you’re stuck having to choose words from lists of thousands of characters.

Our Japanese Beginner Course is designed for people who wish to learn Japanese quickly and effortlessly. The Japanese for Beginners course is primarily a Conversational Japanese Course since it teaches you what you need to know, the Japanese grammar, the Japanese writing system, and vocabulary words, and it engages students in genuine Japanese conversation with the help of our teachers, who are familiar with the native language. Japanese Explorer offers a unique system for teaching and learning Japanese. Not only is it treated as an academic subject, but you can also master this Japanese skill by following our syllabus produced by AJALT (Association for Japanese-Language Teaching).

Our courses are designed to be accessible to all levels, from beginner to advanced, without discrimination based on age or prior experience in Japan. This makes us especially suitable if your goal is always to become fluent rather than just being able to communicate about everyday topics like work/business, etc.

Level 1 – Beginner 1 (Units 1–8) | 16 Hours

  • For learners with no prior Japanese knowledge
  • Build foundational grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation
  • Learn to introduce self & others, ask time, handle shopping & restaurant scenarios
  • Talk about travel plans and everyday activities
  • Outcome: Participate in short, structured conversations

Level 2 – Beginner 2 (Units 9–16) | 16 Hours

  • For learners who completed Beginner 1 or have basic Japanese
  • Expand sentence structures and conversational skills
  • Describe habits, impressions, locations, and experiences
  • Give/receive items, express preferences, invite others, provide simple reasons
  • Outcome: Sustain short conversations naturally in social and workplace contexts

Level 3 – Beginner 3 (Units 17–24) | 16 Hours

  • For learners who completed Beginner 1 & 2 (32 hours total)
  • Express wishes (tai-form), sequence actions (te-form), and make polite requests
  • Ask/grant permission, forbid actions (nai-form), talk about ongoing actions
  • Discuss residence, work, hobbies, and knowledge
  • Outcome: Engage in longer, connected conversations confidently

Overall Pathway Outcome:

  • Communicate effectively in everyday, workplace, and travel situations
  • Express opinions, preferences, and intentions
  • Prepare for progression to the Japanese Elementary Level
